How to find the best Locksmith?
May 3 2020
There are a few things that seem easy but aren’t, finding a service person is one of those things. Finding a locksmith is hard, finding a good locksmith is hard, finding the best locksmith…
However, like every other thing which seems hard, there are ways around it. There are steps to finding the best locksmith.
Before we go into those steps, there are two things you have to have figured out. The first is, what kind of service are you searching for? Do you need to make sure your ex keeps to their part of the restraining order? Do you need to repair a lock? Or do you need an electronic card replacement?
The second thing you need to do is find a locksmith that handles the exact service you need.
Now, let us look at those steps we talked about
Surf the net: Thanks to technology, you can always find services on the internet, as long as you type in the right keywords. If you need a locksmit, all you just have to do was type in the words “best locksmith” and a plethora of options with reviews and contact details will be rolled out for you. So, make your job easier by surfing the net to look for locksmiths.
Make a list: There are tons of locksmiths, it is easy to do an eenie meenie minie mo and pick out from them, but the first right step would be to make a comprehensive list. This is because there are other steps that you would get to, and for every step you pass, you will have to tick out one name from your book. This will get you to the last set of names, and then when you get there, you can now do another eenie meenie minie mo, and pick out from the small list of best you have. Make sure your list is comprehensive.
Search for 24-hour service: The thing about these kinds of services is that, sometimes you may need them at odd hours because you could forget your key in the cub on your way home, or have a stalker ex. Either way, a locksmith’s service is the kind that you will need 24 hours a day. So, search your list for those that offer a 24 hours service and tick them out.
Ask friends and family: Some of your friends have had to use a locksmith at some point, and even if they did not, they have met and they probably know people who do. They are your best bet at getting a good locksmith. People are honest about services, if it was good, they would recommend it, if it was bad, they would have things to say. Bottom line is, they would always have something to say, what they say should make you either add a name to the list or strike out a few names from the list.
Run a check: At this point, your comprehensive list is getting smaller, which is a good thing because this step is tedious. You will have to run a check on those you have on the list now, their safety practices, their job experience, history with customers and whatnot. The reason you have to check on their safety practices is that the job you are giving them requires your safety. So you need to know that they are up there with safety as well.
Ask them for their credentials: While some states do not require that a locksmith should get a license, you may feel a lot better if your locksmith has one. Having one will mean that they are vetted and approved by the government, this means you can hold them accountable for things done, and this right here, is the goal. To be able to hold them accountable by their license will make trusting them a little easier and you need to trust them.
Get their quote: You are fixing a lock, not buying a house, if they give you exorbitant prices, compare to your budget, and if it doesn't work, walk. After comparing to your budget and striking out those who wanted to be the next Jeff Bezos on your account, compare against each other, within your budget and make your pick. When you make your pick, write down that quite somewhere or record the conversation. The children of Adam and Eve are very deceptive. They could switch a quote on you in the future and have you wondering if you are an amnesiac or you are suffering from early-on dementia. Save that quote, and if they try to get smart with you, have your proof.
Use your gut: Now, this is the hard part, you have made your top ten or top five or even three, logic and reason say to use either of them. You will have to keep logic and reason aside for this one because you are looking with your gut. You do not like the name of one, it does not sound right, strikeout. Your gut says you cannot trust this person to handle the job, strike them out. Your heart does not feel right with this one, make sure they leave the list. Yes, they are doing their job, but you are also inviting them into your home, and putting your safety in their hands, yes, you have to like them. You need to like them or this won’t work. That they were awesome to your friend’s neighbour when they carried out a service for them, does not mean they will be the same way for you, people change. It is your job to look out for yourself and that involves trusting your gut with everything you have got.
Finding a locksmith requires these steps and if followed to the latter, it will be easy to get the exact one that you need. And one more thing, not that it is important, but please, make sure they have insurance.
